Using Less Stock Photography with Alea Harper
Hello! You know the awesome graphics that I've been using for Indie e-Con? All of them were made by Alea Harper, a good friend of mine. She's absolutely brilliant with graphic design - and she's here today to share a really cool trick that can help cut down on your need for stock photography!

This is such a great video! It's inspiring to see something that sounds complicated broken down to make it look doable. And I highly recommend Alea as a designer! :)

DeleteSo this looks super interesting- I was only able to watch a portion of it right now, but I added it to my Watch Later, and hopefully I'll get to it soon! As an amatuer graphic designer (who hopefully won't be so amateur after next fall!), I'm sure this'll be super helpful in more than just book covers. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGood luck in your graphic design endeavors! It's such a fun art form. Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums for it. :) I'm self-taught and one of the biggest things that have helped me is YouTube. There are so many fantastic Youtube videos!

DeleteThis is a great video! I use watercolors usually for my covers too, but I wish I could get them to look a little better once I get them printed. I never thought about using Gimp to enhance it like that, so I definitely found this useful :)
ReplyDeleteYes. I find that pictures of watercolors aren't as vibrant as the original pieces, so enhancement is a key factor. :)

ReplyDeleteThank you SO much, Abigayle! I love watercolor too. There needs to be more of it in the world. It's not too hard to learn...but it's still hard. I definitely don't consider myself an expert, but I know the basics...enough to at least add texture to my covers. :)
