Nutcracker Advent Day 4

Today, I actually have three nutcrackers. Three nutcrackers that are practically identical but for their sizes and the fact that the biggest one lacks a metal piece on his head and must therefore wear a golden pom pom ball instead.

He thinks it looks ridiculous, but the others say it's distinguished, and since I agree with them, it stays.

I don't remember where I got this trio, though my mom says that they were some of my first "real" nutcrackers. Part of me wants to say that it was my Grammy who gave them to me, and it's quite probable, since she was the source of most of my early nutcrackers.

There really isn't anything remarkable about these three, except for the fact that they have cannons in their heads.

Okay, I guess I ought to explain. You see, as kids, my sisters and I would make up stories with our horse figurines. (Mostly hers, but a few of them were actually mine.) And our stories actually covered some pretty epic events, such as political intrigue (ask me about the Queen of All Horses some time), romance, and of course, wars.

One of these wars were desperate enough that we had to call in backup. First my giraffes came to their aid (the plastic ones, that is) and when they weren't enough, we called on the nutcrackers. And since they were in a war, all of the nutcrackers needed a weapon. While many of them had an obvious one, such as a spear or sword or something, with others we had to get creative. These three had cannons in their heads.

  2. Those were picked up on Grammy and Papa's travels to see your cousins one summer. Grammy then gave them to you for the following Christmas, Birthday, and Christmas. They are your most expensive nutcrackers, as the price tag for the set was over $50. You were 7 or 8 when you got the first one, then received the second one for the following birthday.

    1. Ah, so that's why I've never purged them despite their ordinary appearances! I love them though ;)

  3. Ordinary? Oh no--"classic," rather! ;-)

Love the "cannons in their heads" bit, LOL. Your toys led epic lives.

    God bless,
