What gave you the idea for Left To Die, Ivy? It sounds like an AH-MAZING book!

Hi Savannah! Thanks for asking! The title for Left to Die was a difficult one for me to decide on. If I remember correctly, I had a list of potential titles for the book. Left to Die was not my first choice--I thought it was too harsh and scary sounding. But after talking with my mom, she helped me realize that the story is not something that needs to be sugar coated. It needs to be harsh and scary in a way. While the story itself is far from scary, it revolves around a harsh social problem that doesn't need to be softened by a sugary title. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the question!
Actually, the title is what drew me in - I figured that this was a book that wouldn't sugarcoat, and I love books that aren't afraid to show it how it is. Thanks for answering!

How long did you spend on research for The Old River Road? Since it's about your ancestors, what was the best way to learn about them? I may want to write about my ancestors at some point ;)
ReplyDeleteI spent about six months total researching. The first four months were before I started writing, and the remaining two months happened during the fixing/filling-in-holes process. :)
