Reveries Co. Blog Tour!

Please pretend that I am saying something witty here, because I am tired and still neet to get to bed in preparation of work tomorrow. (I somehow managed to score a schedule of working seven days in a row, which means I'm crashed at my parents' apartment, away from all of my own stuff. Two days left to work, though, and then I might get the next seven days off. Who knows. Only the next four are for certain.)

Anywho, some of you may know that I've been designing covers here and there, and was planning to do some other stuff with GiraffeCrafts that ... never happened.

Well, a friend of mine started a company of her own and was looking for service providers, and had a shiny website. So, for now, GiraffeCrafts providing services (outside of the Arista Challenges and such) is on hold, and I'll be doing this shinding instead. I'll let Kellyn take over from here.

Oh, and there's an interview I had with Kellyn in there, so, fun stuff!

I need sleep.

***

Hi there! This is Kellyn Roth (or Kell, if you prefer), and today I’m going to tell you a little about Reveries Co.

Here’s our story.

On September 8th 2018, I was designing a site for my cover design business. As I drag-and-dropped the elements around, I realized I needed a shiny, flashy tagline. So I started thinking about my goals as a service provider.

I wanted to help authors like me succeed! I wanted to make sure that every writer got the best services, personalized to their needs, at the best prices.

But how could I do that? Editing is a service every author needs, but I’m not an editor, so I can’t offer editing.

Every blogger, writer, and author needs a website, but web design isn’t my specialty. In fact, I tend to get frustrated with all that coding and other nonsense; I like to keep it simple. But a lot of people need more than “simple.”

Suffice to say, I didn’t have the expertise I needed to offer a one-stop-shop for authors, bloggers, and other businessmen and women who needed those services but couldn’t afford them, couldn’t find the right providers, and even struggled to know what they needed.

So I began planning … and in no time,

Reveries Co. Was Born!

Partnering with my dear friend, Angela R. Watts, I came up with a business plan, an application form, and a website.

Now over fifteen service providers have joined our forces, from seasoned professionals like Savannah Jezowski, Jessica Greyson, and Abigayle Claire to up-and-coming entrepreneurs like Charis Rae, Jessie Bingham, and Michaela Bush.
Now we are dedicated to providing quality, personalized services for an affordable price. Our #1 goal is seeing you succeed in your writing endeavors. We even offer services such as consulting to give you the knowledge you need to go forward.

I firmly believe that with hard work and a little elbow grease, anyone can develop a career and business in the writing field. However, I acknowledge that we all need some help from time to time. We’re here to offer that help quickly and easily.

Our team is a carefully-selected task force of experienced designers, editors, proofreaders, and other professionals, several of whom are authors themselves. Most of them have multiple years of experience and all have proven themselves to be consistent and trustworthy workers who offer quality services.

All service providers are held to consistent standards of operation and output. We keep a close tab on the quality and proceedings of each service. We’re a team, and we function as one, helping each other succeed as well as authors.

Now, I know you’d like to hear a bit about what’s going on with the tour, discounts, etc., so let me share something about that.

The Giveaway

The first item of importance is the giveaway! This giant book bundle has books by myself as well as Savannah Jezowski, Jessica Greyson, Rebekah Morris, Kendra E. Ardnek, and others!

Facebook Party

The official Facebook launch party will be at the end of this week (Saturday the 5th) from 12 PM to 3 PM PST.

I’ll be hosting a live video and taking your questions, assuming the internet cooperates, and there will be several giveaways, service provider spotlights, and other fun features.

During this party, we’ll also be offering a bunch of exclusive discounts and giveaways, so be sure to check in then!

Discounts

Throughout the tour, we’re offering exclusive discounts. Everything from editing to book cover design to consulting has an extreme cut taken out of the price … but we only have a limited amount of spaces available.

Everything from 15% to 30% off of a bunch of different services - from editing to interior formatting to book cover design to website design! We even offer specialized coaching packages!

And that’s about it! I hope you’re able to join along with the blog tour and check out our other amazing posts!

1. What gave you the idea for this project?

It was basically just thinking about how there was no "one-stop shop" for authors, bloggers, and other professionals and the thought that it'd be cool if that one-stop shop were affordable, professional, and personalized. I wanted to do something, but I couldn't do it alone; I needed a team. So came the idea for Reveries Co.!

2. What are your goals and ambitions for this company?

My main goal for now is to get it launched, but after that, I definitely want it to become a bustling business and in time attract traditional publishing houses and the like. I want our service providers to be able to take as many clients as they want and eventually expand our team to include more professionals. My hope is that Reveries Co. will be around for the long haul, and I can eventually make it into a secondary business for myself (as well as the service providers).

3. Who are you outside of Reveries Co.?

I'm an Indie author, a blogger, an amateur graphic designer, a writing teacher/coach, a secretary who really sucks at answering the phone (BUT I SHALL PERSEVERE), a little sister/big sister combo who really doesn't know where she belongs, and a proud aunt of five.

4. Who are some people that you look up to?

Well, this is a hard question for me because I don't really let myself look up to anyone for various reasons (except God). Trust issues, I guess. I suppose I look up to my grandma, my mother, and my bosses at work!

5. Favorite authors?

... too many to count? Jane Austen, Gene Stratton Porter, Charlotte Bronte, Sarah Sundin, Maud Hart Lovelace, C.S. Lewis, Jules Verne, I could go on like this for ten years so stop me now.

6. Favorite color?

I hate being that one feminine girl, but ... pink. Seriously. I like it for the color not the stereotype. I also love me a brilliant red! But it really depends - I'd rather wear black or gray than any bright color, preferably with red highlights.

7. If you were an animal, what would it be?

Definitely an elephant. Which sounds like a bad idea, because everyone is like, "You want to be a big fat animal!?" but elephants are fiercely loyal and intelligent and I've sobbed all the way through Dumbo (THE ORIGINAL Y'ALL) since I was like two, so. Elephant.

Interview with Jaye and Tricia

So, um, this was supposed to go up on Tuesday, but ... see, I had an emotional breakdown on Monday. There's supposed to be a review on this post, and I was going to do the review in video format, but ... while the video is filmed, my brain is just rejecting the thought of editing it.

Terrible, I know. But at least there is an author interview here for you guys to read.

Anywho, I have an interview with Jaye L. Knight and Tricia Mingerink, authors of Ilyon and Acktar respectively.

And they're banding together to promote the releases of the newest books in each series, and let me just say, the two books that I did read were AMAZING. Again, I was supposed to be posting the review here, but ... have an interview.

(Mini review: Bitter Winter and Lacy were both awesome additions to the series, read them now and have your heart torn out and shredded to peices.)

1. Where do you find inspiration?

Tricia: Lots of places, but especially from reading and from camping, hiking, and traveling across the United States.

Jaye: Movies and TV are my main sources. I’m a very visual person. I love watching characters interact with each other. Also Pinterest. :D I can write a character so much better when I actually have pictures for them.

2. What is your favorite thing about each other?
Tricia: Jaye is always so helpful to fellow indie authors. She participates in SO many blog tours throughout the year and was really helpful to me when I was starting out. She has such a giving heart.

Jaye: D’aww, thanks Tricia. ^_^ I love how encouraging and helpful Tricia is too. She’s so supportive of my books and it has been so much fun having such a connected fanbase. One of my favorite memories of the whole last year was sitting at the Realm Maker’s awards banquet next to Tricia waiting to see if one of our books would be the winner.

Tricia: Awww! Yes! That was a great moment at Realm Makers with both of our books up for an award, even if neither of our books won, lol.

3. Eep! Yes, that was such fun. About each other's books?
Tricia: Jace, lol. Don’t have to think about that one too much. And the big battle scenes.

Jaye: Leith! :D Leith is my precioussss. Tricia’s books give me all the feels that I’m sure my books give my readers, so I basically get a taste of my own medicine.

4. I love how your question is basically identical. Who is your favorite authors?
Tricia: Besides Jaye, you mean, lol. Other favorite authors would be Nadine Brandes, Ashley Townsend, Jill Williamson, Morgan Busse, K.M. Shea, Melanie Cellier, and C.S. Lewis, to name just a few.

Jaye: Besides Tricia, a few are Tolkien, Brandon Sanderson, Wayne Thomas Batson, Karen Witemeyer, and Nancy Kimball. But those are just a few. The list could go on for a while.

5. With both your series winding to their end (more or less soonishly), what do each of you have on the horizon next?
Tricia: More or less soonishly is right, lol. I still have 2 more books in The Blades of Acktar to write and release (expected in 2019 and 2020). Earlier this year, I released Dagger’s Sleep, the first book in my new series Beyond the Tales, so I will also be working on the next books in that series as well.

Jaye: Well, I will soon publish my first ever contemporary romance novel under the pen name Jaye Elliot. I plan for there to be two more books in that series, so that’s probably what I’ll focus on after I finish Ilyon Chronicles. Beyond that, I have so many different ideas that I’m not sure which one will rise to the top and demand to be written next. I’m definitely nowhere near done writing fantasy

The video review will be posted just as soon as I can pull myself together and finish editing it.

Author Interview: Sarah Allerding

Okay, yesterday just disappeared right out from under me, and I forgot to post the interview with Sarah Allerding, like I was supposed to. (Bad Kendra.)

Anywho, this is for the blog tour for Sarah's newest release, The Swords of Time, which is a delightful time travel novel in the vein of The Magic Treehouse or even Castle in the Attic.

Can you tell my readers a bit about your book and why they need to go read them RIGHT NOW?
The book is about two boys who are sent into medieval times when they find some special swords. The boys have an adventure full of danger and bravery. Will they find the lost heir to the castle before it is too late?

What inspired Swords of Time?
My friend came up with an idea to have twin boys with specific names in a story. The names she chose made me think of writing a book about brothers in medieval times. I chose different names and made the brothers different ages.

When not writing, what can people usually find you doing?
Studying the Bible, spending time with my friends, umpiring baseball, reading, watching movies, cooking, and baking.

Do you know your personality type, and if so, how would you say it affects your writing?
I have gotten both INFP and INFJ on personality tests. I would say my personality affects my writing the most in the way I develop my characters.

What's next on your horizon?
I have a a few books started. One is the second in the Rainland series. I am hoping to get one of the books done this year.

Braden has one goal: knighthood.

Unfortunately, he lives on a horse farm in modern day America with his uncle, his younger brother, and an aunt who absolutely hates him.

Against all odds, Braden and his brother, Jamie, stumble across a pair of special swords that sweep them back into medieval times. They land near a castle whose lord has a task for them.

His older son is lost somewhere in time, and only someone who can control the Swords of Time can save him.

With the goal of knighthood suddenly in sight, Braden's not sure he wants to leave, but he wishes to impress the lord. Can he protect his brother, find the lost heir, and fulfill his dreams, or will the lord's younger son ruin everything?

Minstrel's Call Blog Tour - Interview with the Author

Happy Thursday everyone!

And of course it's Thursday, because Thursday is the day that I'm supposed to share this lovely interview with Jenelle Leanne Schmidt.

SPARKLY WIZARDESS AUTHORESSES ARE NEVER LATE, I TELL YOU.

Book Blurb:
War threatens. The game board is set. But the Minstrel is missing...

Advancing his growing power, the Dread Prince breaks free of his prison and brings a faction of dragons under his control, stirring unrest and hatred in the newly united kingdoms of Tellurae Aquaous.

On the heels of defeat, an unexpected message from the erstwhile Minstrel arrives, pleading with his friends for rescue. Together, the High King and his companions must follow the fragile trail, braving peril and darkness that will test the measure of them all...

Tell me three fun facts about yourself.

I am a compulsive opener-of-doors. Ever since my dad read me The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe when I was little, I’ve been looking for a way into Narnia. The “grown-up” part of me fears I may never find it, but the part of me that will never grow up still likes to look behind doors, insides closets and cabinets, and around corners... hoping to find a magical land filled with grand adventures.

I have this amazing superpower that causes people around me to get lost on road trips. I don’t even have to be the one driving or navigating... I just have to be in the car. Thankfully, the wide-spread availability of GPS has helped to negate this somewhat dubiously useful superpower.

I don’t fit neatly in any of those personality tests. No matter what it is, I always end up pretty close to the exact middle on any spectrum. In college, when I had to take the actual Meyers-Briggs test, my scores were all within 48%-51% on every result except Introvert-Extravert (I am an introvert... though the people I love/feel comfortable with would never guess that)

Tell me a bit about your book, Minstrel's Call, and why my readers need to rush to their nearest Amazon and read it RIGHT NOW.

Minstrel’s Call is the fourth and final book in my YA fantasy series and it has all the amazing things, which is obviously why everyone should rush off and get their hands on a copy right now! (And the rest of the series, if you haven’t read it yet...)

Oh.

Did you want more specifics?

Well, it has awesome dragons, an epic fantasy ship and ocean voyage, a high-stakes battle for the fate of the world, an evil villain bent on destroying everything, magical weapons, and is filled with themes of friendship, loyalty, courage, and the importance of family. It also reveals much of the mystery behind Kiernan Kane... this is his story, more than anything else.

What is your biggest piece of writing advice?

If you want to be a writer, you should be writing. It is, to this day, the best and biggest piece of writing advice I’ve ever received, and now I’ve passed it on to you! It seems fairly simple, but that is where most of its beauty lies. You can read about writing, you can hone your craft, you can listen to music, you can debate outlines versus discovery writing, you can contemplate the best way to hook a reader and argue about the use of tropes, but until you begin putting words down on the page, that story in your heart will remain untold, unshared with others.

Describe your writing process in seven words.

Chaotic. Tedious. Thrilling. Terrifying. Cathartic. Emotional. Analytical.
