Q&A with Amanda Tero

I have Amanda Tero here today to answer any questions you might have about writing, her writing, her writing process, or any other questions you might have for her!

I've not read any of Amanda's books, though I have one of them on my computer, but she's a sweet girl. It's not Befriending the Beast, though, which is the one that I'd like to read.

  1. Hi, Amanda! Thanks for answering our questions! I'd like to know: if you could give your younger self one piece of advice related to writing, what would it be?

    1. Hi Sarah! Hmm... well, my younger self was obsessed with writing--not necessarily with writing what pleased God. So my advice to my younger self would be to keep God first, and to follow Him more than an interesting storyline. :)

    2. Amanda, what do you do when you find yourself beginning to get caught up in a storyline instead of writing the words God has for you?

    3. Hi Erika! Very good question. When I find myself getting caught up in the storyline instead of following God, I have to put that story aside. There is a medieval series I am LONGING to write, but for a while there, I was so caught up in the characters and story that I wasn't at all trying to give a godly message. I was just wanting to get a good story out there. I think I'm to the point where I could write it focused on God, but I have to get through a few other projects first. ;)

    4. Thanks for sharing! It's encouraging to hear what God is doing and teaching believers in their spiritual lives, especially through the calling of writing. I look forward to reading that medieval series when God has you write it!

  2. The cover of Befriending the Beast is beautiful, Amanda! Who designed it?

    1. Thank you so much, Savannah! Currently, I do all of my own cover designs. :) It's something that I enjoy piddling with and I've learned a lot while doing it!

I just publicized the cover for book two after "Befriending the Beast." If you want to see it... http://withajoyfulnoise.blogspot.com/2017/03/the-secret-slipper-cover-reveal-09.html

    2. Ooh, it's cool that you do them yourself! I'm always in awe of people who can create their own beautiful covers ;). Thanks for the link! I'll have to go check it out ...

  3. Hi Amanda! It is great to see you over here. I would love to hear about what sets your version of Beauty and the Beast apart from the rest. :)

    1. Hey Rachel! Thanks for commenting! The main factor that sets "Befriending the Beast" apart is that it's not a romance. ;) The beast is Belle's father, so that in and of itself adds a whole new dimension.

    2. I love that idea. It sounds like a great premise for a book.

  4. What are some of the books you've read and enjoyed that have had the biggest impact on your writing?

    1. Do you mean fiction writing I've learned from or books on the writing craft? Honestly, I have learned from both. I would have to say Roseanna White's fiction books have helped me because I admire her style. As for others, I finished "12 Key Pillars of Novel Construction" (C.S. Lakin) not too long ago that really helped me out. I'm still on my quest to find good books on the writing craft and reading through them slowly. ;)

    2. I was asking about books in general. Interesting - I'll have to look up Roseanne White's books as I haven't heard of her.

I have very much enjoyed your writing style in all your books that
      I've read.

    3. Ooh... I hope you do!! Some of hers have a little more romance than I personally prefer, but she is an excellent author!

Thank you very much! :) God has been good to help me in my writing. :)
