Morgan is my writing partner and knows about 50% of my spoilers. Or, rather, about 50% of the spoilers that interest her. She doesn't know yet that ------------------- or ----------------------. She's rather frustrated that she doesn't know --------------- yet. She's also to blame for the tear-jerking Rizkaland #3 that you're going to get. She's a great author in her own right, too. I've read all of her books, and liked all of them, though my favorite is definitely her Time Captives Trilogy.

Indie. Independent. Alone.
Or not.
When you first start out as an indie author—especially if
you’re new to the world of the internet like I was—you might feel very alone.
You might feel like you have to do everything all by yourself. After all, by
going indie, you’re forgoing having someone else do all the publishing work for
you. But indie does not mean alone.
I’m an independent author and I don’t intend to change, but
truly, it’s more like what Hermie said in Rudolph,
the Red-Nosed Reindeer… “Let’s be independent together.”
You don’t have to do everything yourself. I didn’t create
the cover for my first book. I asked a friend to help. I don’t do all the
editing myself. My family and friends help me edit. I definitely don’t promote my
books all by myself. The community of indie authors helps me out.
There are a lot of indie authors out there—some of them
fairly well known, some very much not, and everywhere in between—and the
community is constantly growing. The great thing about this community is how
supportive it is. We’re always helping each other out, whether it’s through
beta reading, helping with formatting and cover design, answering questions,
pointing each other towards resources and services, participating in blog
tours, writing reviews, and just being friends with each other. Yes, sometimes
we have to say no because there’s only so much time in the day (one of these
days I’m going to take my own advice and move to Mars for that extra hour ;) ),
but often we’ll still be able to offer you another solution or help in a lesser
capacity. We like to help each other get started, because once upon a time
someone did the same thing for us.

You’re in a great place to start, here with Indie e-Con. Follow our blogs and
comment on posts, follow our social media pages, join Goodreads author and fan
groups, and start making friends. We’ll welcome you gladly. I’ve made some of
my best friends through the indie author community.
You don’t have to do this alone. You don’t have to have all
the answers. You don’t have to have all the skills necessary to create and
market your book yourself. Just ask.

ReplyDeleteYou are right. We are unique in our journey and our needs. Support is so important for any author and especially an indie author. I am not sure what I would do without friends to come alongside and cheer or console me at different points in my journey. Also, I love doing the same for others.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Morgan. I do feel as though it's hard to connect in the right way. Loneliness is real, and even if it's a lie, it can be a hindrance. Strange how in this world of internet it's still difficult to connect. Or perhaps the problem is being heard amid all the noise...
