Nutcracker Advent Day 1

Christmas is one of my favorite times of year. It's the time where we thank God for sending his son, everyone's happy, and all the pretty Christmas tree decorations.

One of my favorite parts of Christmas is that it's the time of Nutcrackers. I don't know how many of my readers know this, but I love those ugly wooden fellows. In fact, it's been my dream to have one come to life, defeat the mouse king, and marry me, ever since I was old enough to understand the concept of marriage. To make sure that this is possible, I have a large collection of nutcrackers.

Another thing I really love about Christmas are advents, counting down to Christmas. So I'm going to do one with my nutcrackers. Last night I set up my six-inch tree and this morning I pulled out my camera and took a picture of the tree and each one of the nutcrackers.

The nutcracker pictured here was my first one. When I found out that they actually sold them in stores, I wanted one. In fact, it was all I wanted for Christmas.

Problem was ... that year, no one was selling them. Cue the classic Christmas Movie where the parents ran crazy all over town to get their kid that One Special Present.

They never did find a traditional wooden nutcracker, but they did find a plastic one covered in cloth that danced when you turned him on. Although, the music he dances to is not part of the ballet. I didn't care. He was a nutcracker, and he went on my shelf and looked pretty.

However, the plastic he was made of was apparently cheap, because while he still plays music, the only part of him that dances is one arm. His hips and other arm are broken.

But that doesn't matter. He was still my first nutcracker and he still holds a special place in my heart.

  1. Ugly wooden fellows? Pish posh, my dear! They're symbols of a great adventure! Or a magnificent nut diet.

You have enough nutcrackers to use them as a countdown?! Whoa! I don't think I've ever showed that much dedication to any sort of collection whatsoever! I once began a set of of stuffed pandas, but I only ever got up to about 5.

Well, allow me to say that I am really looking forward to seeing more of your wooden men. :)

    1. Oh, I think them quite handsome, but according to the book ...

I have been collecting nutcrackers faithfully ever since I was five years old, and I usually add at least two or three each Christmas. Sometimes more if it's a good year. I did purge a few unremarkable ones once, but for the most, if I get one, I keep it. Not all of them are nutcrackers in the wooden sense of the word (like today's) but I love them all.

    2. Oh, and my Nutcracker collection is nothing compared to my giraffe collection. Now that's huge.

  2. What fun! I was just thinking recently it'd be neat to see pix of your famed Nutcracker Collection. Every time I see a display of nutcrackers in town, I think of you. ;-)

Today's is quite unique--one very seldom sees a cloth nutcracker. He looks rather dashing, despite being broken.

    God bless, and Merry Christmas!

    1. Well, here it is!

I have a lot of pretty unique nutcrackers. I don't have tons of space, so I have to be picky about the ones that come into my room.
